Do you ever wonder what colour the church table cloth is going to be or when the day set aside to celebrate St. Barnabas the Apostle is?  The 2015 Canadian Church Calendar also has beautiful pictures of Canadian Churches (including places like Whitehorse United Church - April).  A limited supply of calendars are available at the church for only $5.

DEEP WINTER SONG
Join Gordon Oaks Jr. and other local musicians for a mystical evening of music and story on December 21st at 7pm at the Centre For Spiritual Living: 7621-101 Ave.  You will enjoy an acoustic musical presentation exploring and celebrating the Mystery of the Solstice, Christmas, and of this wondrous dark season of winter.  The evening highlights traditional and modern songs of the season along with storytelling, poetry, angelic vocals, a Solstice Fire ritual, and a fire dance.  Tickets for this event are available at Earth's General Store on Whyte Ave and online: http://deepwintersong2014.eventbrite.com.


HUMAN TRAFFICING WORKSHOP
Peace Lutheran church is hosting this event on Saturday, January 31st from 10am to 3pm.  Lunch is provided at a cost of $15.  It will be an opportunity to learn about the issue of “Human Trafficking” and what we can do to address that issue globally and locally.   Please

SAFEWAY GIFT CARDS
St. David’s can sell you gift cards for Safeway (at face value) every Sunday after church in a variety of value combinations.  There is no need to pre-order, we have them on hand.  You can take them home that day.  A percentage of the cost stays with the church as a fundraiser. 


GIVING REGULAR OFFERINGS
For people who want to give weekly offerings to the church, the 2015 offering envelops are available at the church.  If you used envelopes in 2014 or want to begin using some, they are available at the church to be picked up.  This allows the church’s treasurer to issue you one receipt at the end of the year for all of your givings.


YOUTH GROUP
St. David’s is please to offer regular events for junior and senior high youth every second Friday - the next gathering is, December 9th.  Bring your friends and come to the church at 7:30pm.  For more information contact, youth@stdavidsleduc.com.

By purchasing this calendar, you will not only helping us counter and satirize the stereotypes of women ministers, but will help do some good in the world: Proceeds from each sale will go to the Malala Fund, an international organization whose aim is to create a world where girls are empowered to reach their potential through quality education.

INDIGENOUS WOMEN IN COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
The Coady International Institute's
award-winning Indigenous Women in Community Leadership program provides an
educational experience of a lifetime.   It
supports First Nations, Métis and Inuit women in building their capacities to
be strong leaders capable of strengthening and contributing to the development
of their communities.  This four-month
certificate program will take place from May to end of August 2015.
 Successful candidates are provided with a full scholarship that includes
tuition, travel, accommodations, meals, and a three-month community placement
stipend.  Program participants also benefit from the guidance and
mentorship from accomplished Indigenous women leaders throughout their learning

deadline is January 16, 2015.

UPDATE ON NARAMATA CENTRE
There is still no news on a new collective bargaining agreement, but the Centre’s special fundraiser, the Crossroads Campaign was a success, raising over half-a-million dollars in pledges in one month.  This opens the possibility that the Centre will operate in 2015 as it seeks to reimagine how it can serve the church and all who seek spiritual enlightenment and nurture.

Third Annual Gall Conference with this year's theme on Putting Children First. Amnesty International does excellent work in seeking justice in our world by advancing the cause of Human Rights.  One Sunday, December 7th, there will be information at the church concerning a number of human rights concerns that A.I. is inviting people to support.  You are welcome to participate in this letter-writing campaign after church.

SANTA’S HELPERS AUCTION

For the 31st year, an auction will raise money for one of Leduc’s most successful Christmas outreach programs.  Santa’s Helpers provide food hampers and gifts to a growing number of underprivileged families in Leduc.  Come to the Leduc Rec Centre on December 6th at 11:00am.

 



WINTER REFRESHER

St. Andrew’s College invites everyone to their annual Winter Refresher, March 5th – 7th.  The theme this year is “The Holy Spirit and the Environmental Crisis”, with Keynote speaker, Mark Wallace: a professor of Religion and Interpretation Theory Coordinator at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. KIAROS – FAITH AND JUSTICE
Five years ago, KAIROS lost all of its Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) funding. Churches and individuals stepped up to keep KAIROS going. Let us celebrate our resilience and ensure a strong future for KAIROS! RECONCILIATION BETWEEN ABORIGINAL PEOPLE OF CANADA AND
OTHER CANADIANS
Come to a panel discussion tomorrow (November 21st) at 8pm at the Citadel Shoctor Theatre in Edmonton moderated by Marie Wilson (a commissioner with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission) Discuss how bridges can be built between indigenous communities and the rest of Canada to truly make reconciliation a reality.  Free admission.



ETHICAL WILL
Come on November 23rd to St. Stephen’s College (8810-112 Street; Edmonton, Alberta) for a Legacy Letter workshop where you will be helped to draft a letter to your child/grandchildren that they can treasure. This will help you to tell them the values/principles that have guided your life.  You will explore 12 questions that will help you put into words what is in your history and heart as a legacy for your loved ones to remember you by (sometimes called an ‘ethical will”).  This workshop is free of charge (donations are graciously accepted).  Please register via email to: charles.bidwell@ualberta.ca

REMEMBERING THE CHILDREN SOCIETY
The society’s Annual General Meeting will be on November 25th at 7pm at Sacred Heart Church of the First Peoples 10821 -96 St., Edmonton.  There will two speakers: Archaeologist Terry Gibson, and transitional justice researcher Dr. Augustine Park.



HOLIDAY WREATHS DISPLAY

MISSING AND MURDERED ABORIGINAL WOMEN
Between 1982 and 2012, a total of 1181 Indigenous women and girls have been murdered or are missing in Canada. As a result, the #MMIW movement has reignited calls for the Canadian government to conduct an inquiry. The question remains, however, will an inquiry get at the root causes of the issue?  Join together on November 24th at 6pm at MacEwan University (room CCC 6-156) and learn from local researchers and practitioners in Edmonton about the systemic barriers and root causes that have led to this situation. What can be done to address these barriers and what can we – as a collective – do to raise awareness on the issue?

Amnesty International does excellent work in seeking justice in our world by advancing the cause of Human Rights.  One Sunday, December 7th, there will be information at the church concerning a number of human rights concerns that A.I. is inviting people to support.  You are welcome to participate in this letter-writing campaign after church.

RISING UP FOR HOPE AND HEALING

Come to the church on December 6th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and enjoy a variety of teas, coffee and homemade treats surrounded by manger scenes from many cultures and from around the world.  Just $5 payable at the door.



SANTA’S HELPERS AUCTION
For the 31st year, an auction will raise money for one of Leduc’s most successful Christmas outreach programs.  Santa’s Helpers provide food hampers and gifts to a growing number of underprivileged families in Leduc.  Come to the Leduc Rec Centre on December 6th at 11:00am.
